July 25 — Mountains To Water

Our riding time in the mountains is officially complete, bikes are now packed, and we drive southwest to Lake Como for the next two days, passing through more tunnels than we could count.

Driving along the lake is breathtaking, and also an apt description of driving the very narrow “two-way” street that circumnavigates the middle finger of the lake. Stopping briefly in Bellagio, but avoiding a stay in an overcrowded and tourist-heavy place, opting for a quiet and once again “breathtaking” lunch in Lezzeno, before reaching our destination of the town of Como itself.

July 26 — Lake Como Ciao

We’ve finally arrived at our last full day in Italy. What better way to say Ciao than a private boat hire to take in the beauty of Lake Como from the water, under our command. With many villas passed by over the two-hour journey, and a restful water stop for lunch in the baking sun, we turn back after one very significant villa to see — Villa Del Balbianello (also known as the Star Wars villa having been used as a location for scenes in Episode 2 - Attack of the Clones).

Star Wars nerd alert. The Villa del Balbianello where scenes from Attack of the Clones were filmed.
